December 10, 2006, 4 p.m.
First Congregational Church, North Adams, Massachusetts
25th Annual North County Christmas Features
World Premiere of "Children of Grace" by Hilary Tann, with Words by Penny Harter
A 40+ voice
ecumenical choir will perform Tann's "Children of Grace," a Christmas Cantata by Geoffrey Bush, and other Christmas music. Area clergy will read scripture.
Hilary Tann has chosen Penny's poem "The Children of Grace" as the only contemporary lyrics in her new choral music composition by the same title. This commissioned work will premiere during the North County Christmas program at the First Congregational Church in North Adams, where it is a gift to the church from Jack Bond, a relative of the donor of the church's 1910 Tiffany window, "Christ Blessing the Little Children."
Hilary Tann chairs the Department of Performing Arts at Union College, Schenectedy, New York, and is house composer for Oxford University Press. She is well known for chamber, orchestral, and choral works, and her modern classical music incorporates elements from her Welsh background and her studies of Japanese traditional music. Her biography and an extensive list of compositions may be found on her personal web site, at http://hilarytann.com/. |

New Jersey Poetry Out Loud
|
The Poetry Out Loud National Recitation Competition is sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts, the Poetry Foundation, and the New Jersey State Council on the Arts. The competition begins at the classroom level, with winners advancing to schoolwide, and then regional and statewide contests. The New Jersey winner will recite three poems at the national finals in Washington, D.C., in April and May, where substantial scholarships and school prizes will be awarded. Our residencies in NJ high schools are part of a statewide effort administered by Playwrights Theatre of New Jersey. Any New Jersey public or private high school can participate in Poetry Out Loud. To explore options for your NJ high school, visit the New Jersey State Council on the Arts Poetry Out Loud pages on Discover Jersey Arts. (Note: The application deadline for involvement in the Poetry Out Loud program in New Jersey this year is November 30, 2006.)
